Hi folks

Its been a while but today we have some time off so here I go! It's been seven days since we arrived in Bridgetown and the first week went by pretty fast because there are a lot of things to do on the selfsufficient farm of Eugene and Jude! Welcome in Bridgetown, Bienvenue a Bridgetown...Westcoast of Nova Scotia!

The Family
Eugene and Jude have 5 kids but only one of them is still living in the big house on Clarence Road. Nathaneal is 15, studies at home and breeds Border Collies! He also teached Hannah how to use the shorttrack-skis, unfortunately there were no ski shoes in size 11...Bigfoot had to wear the snowshoes (rackets)!
Jude is a parttime nurse and Nate's teacher, she's also a woolexpert and makes beautiful yarn out of sheep - and goatswool which she sells in a her little woolshop in the house! They also sell soap, jam, mittens and hats all homemade in Bridgetown, crazy!

Hannah's tweede breiles, schitterend hoe snel ze de dingen ziet en leert...en nooit gedacht dat ik dit ooit nog zou zeggen maar breien is best cool  (never thought I would ever gonna say this but knitting is pretty cool...for women :°))...voor vrouwen! In de kleine wolshop vind je allerlei soorten wol: schapenwol, angorawol en mohair, dat is geen wol maar eigenlijk gewoon haar! Wist je dat grijze wol een mix van wit en zwart is, redelijk logisch maar toch leuk om mee te delen! Verder kan je op natuurlijke wijze wol kleuren met ajuinschillen, banaanschillen, koffie en verschillende bloemen. Je kan hier dus een kofiebruine muts kopen 'Pure Josef' of beige Mohair sokken 'Pure Sofie'...Pretty cool huh'!!!

And the short track ski story continuous, zoals ik al zei leerde Nate het hele langlauf-gebeuren aan Hannah! Er valt niet veel te leren! Je glijdt gewoon al stappend vooruit in de sneeuw...het ging behoorlijk goed en ook af en toe behoorlijk fout...dit te wijten aan te grote schoentjes! 

The Barn

Eugene runs a little church as a pastor, is a handyman in the house and a parttime farmer! He spends a lot of time in the barn...taking care of his livestock: horses, donkeys, goats, sheep, ducks, chickens and three barncats! They all need to be fed, some of them need to be milked and all stables need to be cleaned...He built the barn himself with his own wood from up the hill and the help of friends, imagine that you can do all those things in Belgium...that's right IMPOSSIBLE ; )!

The property reaches all over the hill and is mostly pasture and vegtablegarden! The wooden barn is where we spend most of our morning, doing the barnchores between the sheep and the goats! Feeding the livestock and the babies, refresh the water, cleaning stables (@ Wim, read: shovelling shit all day : )). The feeding happens once in the morning and once in the evening! The goats are mostly dairy- (Saanen melkgeiten) and Angoragoats (onderste foto).

Ik vertelde al dat Nathaneal Border Collies kweekte. Wel April heeft vijf pupies en die zijn nu zeven weken oud. Omdat de vraag naar deze honden alsmaar kleiner wordt en er teveel concurrentie is, zal hij April en Jacob verkopen en een pupy opvoeden als huishond,...jammer maar geen slechte keuze! Her name will be Juno...

We leren hier dagelijks bij over hoe je van versgeschoren schapenwol mooi gekleurde en vooral verkoopbare klosjes maakt (washing-drying-carting-mixing-dying-spinning...and probably much more). Brood en gebak bakken is hier dagelijkse kost. Geiten melken, babies voederen, klauwen en hoeven kuisen, en stallen uitmesten, het hoort er allemaal bij. Verder wordt er gebreëen, hout gekliefd en vuur gemaakt...we zitten hier niet stil, oh nee! We have a great time...in or free hours we can hike, go for shorttrack-ski, enjoy the snow or just do whatever we want...

And oh yeah before I forget I'de like you to meet Josef, this big guy is 4 now and a purebred Cotswold! He's almost three feet high and guards his fifteen mixed ladies with pride so better beware if you enter his shed!
